Important Note: for controls to work properly, you must click on the game window. This has to do with how itch.io seems to embed the game, as well as the fact that I have enabled mouse pointer lock when the canvas is selected (this means that, no matter how frantically you swipe your mouse across the desk, it will always stay inside the game window). Also, I enabled fullscreen mode (bottom-right corner of the game window), but I don't recommend using it because it looks weird and doesn't seem to run as smoothly.


Story/Back-of-the-box:

Oh no! The evil chronomancer has breached the sacred barrier of the Realm of Time and will stop at nothing to destroy it. You must fight your way through the corrupted dimensions of the Realm, which are now filled with the chronomancer's minions, in order to stop him. Defeat all the minions in each dimension, then travel to the next one. But beware! You have limited health and energy, not to mention time!

Features:

  • Infinite Dimensions - like time itself, the dimensions of the Realm of Time are infinite! Each dimension is procedurally generated, ensuring that no playthrough will be the same. As you reach higher and higher dimensions, the number and difficulty of enemies, as well as the time you have to defeat those enemies, increases.
  • Health and Energy Bars - the concentric rings around the player represent your current health and energy.
    • Health - the red bar is health. Each time you are hit by an enemy's bullet, your health decreases by 1. If it drops to 0, you will die and have to start saving the Realm over from the beginning. It is restored to full after you clear each dimension.
    • Energy - the green bar is energy. Shooting guns depletes your energy, but it regenerates over time. It is also restored to full when you clear a dimension.
  • Guns - four different types of guns are at your disposal: the pistol, shotgun, chaingun, and laser rifle. Your current gun is displayed in the top-left of the screen. Use 1, 2, 3, and 4 to switch at any time!
    • Pistol - this gun is boring. It shoots one bullet at a time with no spread.
    • Shotgun - this gun is good at clearing out groups of enemies that are close together. Use it wisely though! It takes a lot of energy and its 5 bullets have significant spread.
    • Chaingun - this gun is a more interesting version of the pistol. It rapidly shoots out single bullets with a medium amount of spread. Good for clearing groups of enemies that are in single file. It uses energy extremely quickly.
    • Laser Rifle - this gun is a sniper's dream. Its bullets are slightly faster than the other guns' and it one-shots all enemies, piercing right through them and continuing on its path of destruction. It also bounces off walls! This amount of power comes at a price: it uses almost all of your energy simultaneously.
  • Destructible Terrain - use black boxes as cover from enemy fire. However shooting them wears them down. They will eventually be destroyed and disappear with a crash!
  • Enemies - hordes of red, orange, and yellow enemies are guarding each dimension. Shoot at them to destroy them and save the Realm! More and more minions guard each dimension as you progress, so stay sharp!
  • Timed Combat - you must defeat all of the minions in each dimension before that dimension's timer runs out. This timer resets every time you clear a dimension and it will increase as you progress, giving you time to deal with the ever-growing onslaught of minions.
